Reception Class (Squirrels)
Welcome to Squirrels Class.
Welcome to Reception! In Reception, we have two classes: Hedgehogs Class and Squirrels Class. We are very lucky to have two modern classrooms, with continuous provision opportunities for each area of learning. We also have a wonderful outdoor environment, to continue our learning outdoors.
In Squirrels Class, our teacher is Miss Harrington. She works closely with our teaching assistant Mrs Dearmer. Our classroom is an engaging and vibrant environment, which is designed and adapted in response to the children’s interests. In Reception, children will take part in both adult-led and child-initiated activities. Adult-led activities may be delivered as a whole class, or in a small group. All learning opportunities are carefully planned for, to give children a broad and balanced curriculum, which covers a range of knowledge and skills linked to the seven areas of learning outlined in the Early Years Framework.
During their time in Reception, children will continue on their journey of learning to read and write. Phonics is taught daily, following the ‘Twinkl Phonics Scheme’. In addition to this, children will take part in daily English and Maths sessions. Other areas of learning link to our half termly topics. Whilst we follow these topics, all plans are adapted to follow children’s interests which are ultimately, at the centre of everything we do.
Communication with parents is via Class Dojo. We invite parents to share children’s achievements with school, so that these can be celebrated with the class.
