Welcome to Hedgehogs Class.
Hedgehog Class is the home to our Early Years Foundation Stage provision. Our class teacher is Mrs Whorrod and also working with us are Mrs New and Mrs Smith. We are lucky to have a large outdoor learning environment with a new covered area, recently built thanks to the Military Covenant. Inside we have two large classrooms with continuous provision for each area of learning. There are whole class sessions; adult led group work and child initiated opportunities. Whilst we do follow a topic for each half term our driving force is the children’s interests and plans are adapted to accommodate these. We have daily phonics and maths sessions. Snack time is a social occasion where communication and language is a particular focus. The children have a PE lesson on Wednesdays and Library time on Friday afternoons. We join the whole school for Sharing Assembly on Fridays. Below is our maths strategies booklet which shows you how we are taught at school so that you can support us at home.
We have a class mascot called Henlow Hedgehog. Each weekend he visits one of us and we share our adventures with the class each week.
There is a weekly Home Challenge which gives parents an opportunity to talk to their children about their learning and become involved in their school work. There is also a weekly newsletter which shares the learning for the up-coming week so that this can also be supported at home. We also recognise that the home is an important learning environment for the children and we invite parents to share children’s achievements with school through our “Certificates of Home Achievement”, these are then celebrated with the class.
Our termly and yearly plans are below as well as our weekly newsletter.
